Fall Denim Favs

Hi friends! I filmed a try on of my favorite denim for fall and thought I’d also put up the details here for those of you who may want to reference it in the future and/or don’t use the LTK app. This try on includes a boyfriend style, a skinny meets boyfriend style, a straight leg, and one cropped boot cut. I’ll try and do another round up next month with skinny and/or black denim.

Sizing

A few general sizing details about me so that this can be an appropriate reference. I’m 5’7” and a true size 4. I normally wear a size 27 in pants and will let you know below if I sized down or not in these styles. Pay attention to that because many of them I sized down at least one size! (Side rant: wouldn’t it be great if we could get everyone to make sizes that are ACTUALLY the same? Sigh.)

Oh! And I’m linking several sites that sell each pair so you can find whichever ones have your size in stock.

#1: BOYFRIEND STYLE

Levi’s Women’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans in Waterless Jean Finish

I’ve tried Levi’s in the past and they are always too stiff for my liking. But these are their new “Water<Less Jean” Finish and they actually have quite a bit of stretch! The are wide leg through the thigh and leg. I was nervous about such a wide leg style at first, but I find myself reaching for them over and over when I need to wear jeans, but feel like wearing something comfy. They come up VERY very high with a button fly. The highest of the rises of these four in this try on. I am wearing my true size in these - a size 27. They are stretchy, but don’t stretch out too much. Maybe a little in the knees, but not too much at the waist. Oh! And they come in plus size and several washes. Just make sure you’re getting the Waterless finish for that good stretch!

Exact Details of my pair: Size 27, Worn Out (Waterless) Finish.

$70 - $80 depending on retailer - sold here (on sale for $50!), here, here, and here

#2: SKINNY BOYFRIEND STYLE

Madewell Perfect Vintage in Ainsworth Wash

This is a great gateway to boyfriend jean style. If you’re having trouble letting go of your skinny jeans, but want to be “cool” in a looser style, these are the perfect combo. Fitted through the thigh, but looser around the calf and ankle, they are such and great everyday jean. This particular wash has an unfinished hem which look so cute with both sneakers and boots. They’re loose enough you can tuck in a tighter fitting tee (I’m wearing this one that is amaze and $20),. but tight enough you could wear with a blousy top and not ruin your proportions. I sized down TWO sizes to a 25 in these because in my experience Madewell Jeans stretch out SO much around the waist. Also available in petite and tall.

Exact Details of my pair: Size 25, standard length, Ainsworth Wash.

Other washes in this same style: medium color, light distressed, light, distressed, medium wash, black, dark wash (love these!), light wash finished hem

$128 - sold here, here, here, and here.

#3: STRAIGHT LEG STYLE

AGolde Riley High Waist Step Hem / Straight Crop

Funny story about these jeans. I was wearing my madewell vintage jeans (#2 in the round up) and went in a dressing room in Nordstrom to try on a dress and there was one single pair of the Agolde jeans IN MY SIZE just hanging in there. It was fate so clearly I tried them on and they fit like a glove and we’ve been together ever since.

in reality though, these are NOT cheap. But they are pretty much all I wear. They are straight through the thigh and leg, have a pretty high rise (just below belly button for me) with button fly. I love the cut (but not frayed) step hem that shows just the right amount of ankle bone with any shoe - loafer, mule, sneaker, bootie. The wash is perfect with no whiskers on the thigh (sometimes whiskering can enhance things more than distract, ya know?). They are thick, but stretchy and hold me in without being uncomfortable. I’m wearing one size down from my normal pant size since they come up a bit higher. You could probably order TTS, but I have a very sway back and if I size up on high rise pants they gap at the waist. f you were to invest in one pice of clothing this season, I’d say it’s these jeans.

#4: Cropped Boot Cut Style

Madewell Cali Demi Boot

I find myself wearing this fun cropped boot cut style far more than I thought I would. I like this darker wash (the exact wash I have is sold out most places, so linking the most similar wash below) and how slimming it is with the tighter hip and thigh and then a cute little kick at the bottoms. I do, however wish I got a tall in them as I have long legs and I wish the crop hit me about an inch lower. They also come in petites for those of you shorter gals who want this look, but need the proper proportions. These can feel a little dressier than a boyfriend or straight leg style and the boot cut is a nice flattering cut for all body types. It’s a mid-to high rise with a TON of stretch so holds in your tummy but you can still bend and squat and chase kids etc. They’re my favorite for traveling bc they hold their shape and are so comfy. Definitely give these a try! Again, these are Madewell so I ordered two sizes down from my normal size.

Exact Details of my pair: Madewell Cali Demi Boot in Lockwood Wash, Size 25 regular

Other washes in this style: black, unfinished hem, white

$128 - $135 - my wash is sold out so linking the most similar mid-to-dark wash - sold here and here (exact wash but limited sizes)

If you’d like to see these in video, they’re in my Instagram Stories and I’ll save them to my highlight “try on”. Hope this helps y’all on your search for the perfect jean.
