rattan and woven barstools

I’ve already rounded up the dining chairs I was considering for our new house so it seemed only natural (pun intended) to follow up with a round up of barstools. Deciding on a barstool proved to be MUCH more difficult. We have a slightly odd height of counter top (our counter tops are three inches thick making counter-height stools seem too low and bar-height stools possibly too tall). Here are the criteria I wanted for our barstools:

  • Woven material (rattan/grass cloth/wicker) with cushion - Since our dining chairs are white and natural caning and we have white cabinets, I knew I wanted to carry over those natural tones to add some warmth to our white kitchen. I also really wanted cushions that we can recover in a fun pop of pattern.

  • Tall back and sides - similar to with our dining chairs, I wanted something that could contain a child a bit. Something that wrapped around on the sides and had a high back to support little ones. Our old barstools did this a little bit and it helped me feel like the kids couldn’t topple off the sides.

  • Something different - After having one of THE most popular barstools ever in our old house (I still love them so much btw), I wanted something a bit more unique this go around. We have quite a bit of space between our kitchen and living room in our open-floor plan so we had some room physically and visually to make a statement with the stools.

You think after all of that specific criteria I’d have no problem making a decision, right?! Wrong. My designer and I no joke went to the end of the internet and Dallas Market looking for *the* stools. Funnily enough, we ended up going with the ones I was drawn to from our first trip to market. Just like wedding dress shopping - it’s always the first one that catches your eye! I can’t wait to show y’all which ones we picked. Until then, here’s a round of up ten contenders in case you, too, are on the hunt.

P.S. Many of these (#s 4, 6, and 9 below) are Serena and Lily brand. They are having a sale now through October 29th with promo code LOVEHOME.

one - These beauties are so stunning. I first found them on first dibs for A LOT of money. But it now appears that the original manufacturer out of Australia now has a US site and they’re not poorly priced at all!

two - These were *almost* the ones! Had our dining chairs not had caning, these would have been it. But i didn’t want it to be too matchy matchy. The brass accents on these are stellar. I love these stools so much.

three - If you’re looking for the woven look on a budget, these are your stools. You can’t beat that price! The wicker, the cushion, and the details on the legs all look much more expensive than the actual price.

four - These are the natural colorway of our old stools…but, wait for it…they swivel! If you have a living area behind your kitchen area, this is a great solution to be able to mingle in the kitchen and turn around and catch the living room conversation (or let’s be honest - TV).

five - I saw these with my designer and we both stopped in the hallway and were drawn to the window to look at them closer. They are such a beautiful balance of delicate woven and sturdy wicker. And they curve around (see criteria above)

six - My good friend has these and they are so so stunning! The brass caps on the feet and foot rest, the gorgeous coated wicker that is easy to clean, these were a def in the running up until the end.

seven - I love the polished look of these. If there is such thing as elegant beach, these are it.

eight - Like the look of Serena and Lily at about half the cost? These are your stools!

nine - These are so good. Love the curved back. LOVE that they swivel. And on sale right now for 20% off with code VIPSONLY.

ten - These were so close to what I was wanting but the tone in real life is a little grayer than warm. I think they are so cute though!

Stay tuned for a few more weeks to see which ones we picked! And don’t forget to check out the round up of dining chairs that compliment all of these bar stools here.
