Healing Haiku

If you’re new here, I use poetry as a way to express the deep feelings I often feel as it pertains to raising children, my faith, and the beauty of both the big parts and mundane parts of life. This week I wrote in haiku about our first weekend after the tragic Texas Hill Country flooding. (I wrote more on that here, too).

WEEKND HAIKU

A weekend of slow.
Together we seek out peace,
Doing what we love.

Green ribbons still tied—
Hearts ache beneath quiet trees,
The solemness stays.

Both/and helps us live,
Bits of joy dot our sorrow.
Smiles and pain paired.

The sun breaks again,
Lighting up faces as we
Try to carry on.
